May: A Month of slowing down, then speeding up
May 2026
We're emerging from a turbulent Aries season — a full stellium of planets charging through the first sign of the zodiac, all in front of the North Node, creating that signature "double ignition" energy: new things sparking while old things fell apart. Whether it felt exciting or exhausting (probably both), it was intense. Taurus season arrived near the end of April to slow things down, and as we move deeper into May, more planets shift out of Aries, lending weight to that slower, breathe-and-reassess Taurus vibe. In the last quarter of the month, as Gemini Season arrives, we speed up again, but more through curiosity than early spring’s urgent action-taking.
The month has a distinct emotional shape: it opens and closes with inward-turning full moons, a Scorpio Full Moon of psychological depth at the start, and a Sagittarius Full Moon of deepening our wisdom at the end, with a Taurus New Moon mid-month holding the pressure point, between some more delightful transits in the middle of May.
The front and back end of May carry potent tension along with the inward, sensitive full moons—squares to transformational Pluto have us digging under the surface of life.
how it unfolds:
May 1 — Scorpio Full Moon
A mood of seeking more depth in our foundations, going under the underworld, is how I might describe this feeling.
In a personal anecdote, I had the most Scorpio Full Moon moment on this day that I have ever had. I decided to go out to the yard to read on a lounge chair. This chair was brought out early in spring during a warm front, but it got cold and rainy soon after (for many weeks). Finally, some warmth again. I uncovered the lounge and a side table next to it with some obvious debris and webs at the hem of the cover. There was a towel already on the chair. I picked it up to shake off. As I’m shaking it, I look at my hands, and just inches from one of them is the biggest, most pregnant black spider that I have ever encountered in my life. It was a black widow nearly the size of my palm, and its lower body the size of one of those extra giant grapes.
Hello Scorpio Full Moon, poison, mysterious, pregnant! I always look for symbolism with notable animal/nature encounters. What I landed on was a need to stop taking excessive ibuprofen and muscle relaxers for a back issue. I knew I needed to do so, and this felt like a nod that my body was too filled with poison.
May 2 — Mercury to Taurus
A little fire oozes out of the Aries stellium as Mercury shifts our minds toward more slowness and pleasure. Through May 17th, let your mind meander through sensual interests and questions. Let your body do more thinking than your mind. Come up with valuable ideas and worthwhile connections.
May 4 — Mars Square Jupiter (Aries/Cancer)
Mars and Jupiter are in the final quarter of their synodic cycle — like a general and a unit commander finally getting on the same page. Their journey together seeded in Gemini (pathways, communication, connection), and now Jupiter has moved into Cancer, adding a layer of care and protection to that original vision. This square is less a conflict and more a moment of clicking — tactics and big picture starting to harmonize. Something you've been working toward may suddenly feel more actionable. A visionary plan you've been taking action on is finally resonating with coherence.
May 5 — Mercury Square Pluto (Taurus/Aquarius)
One of the month's more charged transits. Mercury in Taurus (values, voice, worth) squares Pluto in Aquarius (uprooting, hidden power, transformation). These two seeded their current cycle in Aquarius, pointing toward themes of investigative revelation — hidden contracts, power dynamics, things kept in shadow. This square is like the seed breaking ground: something comes to light. Expect possible news around technology, collective power structures, or systemic inequity. In your personal life, this may surface as an "aha" moment around internalized values — privilege you've been blind to, silencing agreements you've unconsciously accepted, or ways you've undervalued your own voice. It can be uncomfortable but clarifying.
May 10 — Sun Sextile Jupiter (Taurus/Cancer)
A welcome breath of warmth. The Sun and Jupiter are nearing the end of their synodic journey, and this sextile marks a moment of receiving help — from a person, a system, or an insight long overdue. Themes of care, values, and how we expand through them are lit up. Allow things in right now. Ask for help if you need it. Something or someone may pull you forward in a way you didn't expect.
May 12 — Mercury Sextile Jupiter (Taurus/Cancer)
A follow-up to the Sun-Jupiter sextile. Where the Sun brought awareness around care and values, Mercury brings mental clarity — questions answered, connections made, information arriving to support what you've just become aware of. A good few days for meaningful conversations, useful research, or plans starting to cohere.
May 13–14 — Mercury Cazimi (Taurus)
Mercury passes behind the Sun in what's called a Cazimi — a moment of infusion where mind and awareness become one. This solidifies thinking around Taurus themes: worth, voice, beauty, pleasure. How do I want to think about what I value? What is my voice actually worth? A subtle but important moment for clarifying your inner narrative, which is always the first layer of bringing anything into form.
May 16 — New Moon in Taurus
The month's pressure point. The New Moon arrives conjunct Mercury and Ceres (productivity, tending what grows), making this less a soft reset and more a moment of shouldering responsibility. New intentions are seeded, but they come with accountability for what’s coming to a conclusion. The window from roughly the 13th through the 17th asks you to follow through, hold what you've built, and step up to the plate. It's character-building energy — the kind that leaves you more confident on the other side.
This also takes us out of the Aries New Moon cycle that was entangled with Chiron, the wounded healer. Emotionally, and in what we are anchoring in memory, we will start to ease up and soften. Soon, Mars will also move to Taurus, and the fire of spring will soften with pleasant feelings and ways of carrying ourselves.

May 17 — Mercury Enters Gemini & Conjuncts Uranus
Our minds speed up with generative questions and possibilities, multiplying faster than we can keep track of.
Most notable is a genuinely historic seed right as Mercury shifts into one of its two home signs. Uranus entered Gemini just weeks ago for a seven-year stay — its first time in this sign in roughly 84 years. The last Uranus in Gemini era gave us the printing press and the radio. Mercury, as Gemini's ruler, is the first major planet to conjunct Uranus in this new placement, seeding something around how we communicate and connect. New forms of communication, new ways information moves, new ideas about what's possible in that realm. We may not see it break into headlines yet — conjunctions are seeds — but something's being planted that will matter.
May 18 — Mars Enters Taurus
Mars leaves its home sign of Aries and slows into Taurus. A genuine exhale after months of high-octane fire energy. With both Mars and the Sun briefly in Taurus together, the 19th–20th can feel notably quieter and more grounded. Enjoy that window.
May 19–20 — Venus Into Cancer + Venus Sextile Mars + squar Neptune
Venus moves into Cancer just as the Moon conjuncts it on the last day of Taurus season — a rich, emotionally charged moment for the planet that rules the season. Venus in Cancer is nurturing, feeling, imaginative. Its sextile to Mars opens a line of communication between the masculine and feminine archetypes — less conflict, more bridge-building. The seed of this Mars-Venus cycle was in Capricorn (serious, structural, legacy-minded), and they're finding constructive ways to understand each other. Note: there is also a Mars square Neptune in the mix, which can blur the picture slightly with projection or idealism. But overall, Venus has strong support here.
May 20 — Gemini Season Begins + Sun conjunct Uranus
The Sun moves into Gemini, the last sign of spring. Where Aries sparked and Taurus molded, Gemini explores — all the possibilities, pathways, and people. More social, more curious, more scattered in the best way. Expect life to speed up. The season's ruler, Mercury, has already made its move to Gemini and conjuncted Uranus. As the Sun follows suit and also conjuncts Uranus around the 22nd, there's a buzzing, electric quality to this stretch — awareness of new frequencies rising.
May 25 — Mars Square Pluto (Taurus/Aquarius)
The second bookend (to the start of the month’s Mercury square Pluto aspect). This is the more intense of the month's hard aspects. Mars and Pluto in a square can correlate with forceful, volatile energy in the world — other astrologers associate this aspect with acts of collective violence. The good news: the Moon is in a supportive position to Pluto, and Mars still carries that sextile to Venus from earlier in the week. Those mitigating forces may soften the edge. Stay aware, stay grounded.
May 28 — Venus Square Saturn (Cancer/Aries)
A tension between pleasure and structure, care and urgency. Saturn in Aries wants to build order and act decisively; Venus in Cancer asks what's actually worth building and whether we're rushing past what matters. You may feel this as an internal push-pull between getting things done and making sure what you're doing feels meaningful. Neither voice is wrong — they just need to negotiate.
May 31 — Full Moon in Sagittarius
The month closes as it opened: with an inward pull. As Gemini scatters attention wide, this Sagittarius Full Moon asks for one real target — a vision grounded in lived experience and genuine belief. What do you actually know to be true? What are you aiming toward, and why? This isn't a contradiction of Gemini season; it's the anchor that makes Gemini's exploration sustainable. End the month here.
The shape of May
It is charged at the front (Mercury-Pluto), some beautiful windows mid-month (Sun and Mercury sextile Jupiter, the Cazimi, Venus sextile Mars), a pressure point around the New Moon on the 16th, a burst of electric new energy as Gemini season opens with new Uranus in Gemini seeds, and a tense close around Mars-Pluto and Venus-Saturn. Find the delightful moments in the middle — they're real and they're worth holding onto.
Looking further ahead: June brings some of the year's most beautiful outer planet aspects and a Venus-Jupiter conjunction on June 9th. Summer has the juiciest, most beautiful transits in store.
