Rosalía’s Lux album is an ambitious, experimental, deeply sourced piece of art. With a fusion of pop, orchestral, flamenco, rave, and religious themes, there is no other album like it. Rosalía channeled 13 female saints throughout history and wrote songs in 13 different languages to match the women she channeled. She tapped into something akin to salvation.
What I like most is that Lux feels like something Rosalía divinely opened to rather than a statement or a need to prove herself or break rules. It feels like something she may have had to trust and follow despite advice, opinions, or trends.
Whether you compare her to other pop stars, the album to other pop records, or its success to other pop successes, you will not find a formula here. You will find indescribable art. You will find authenticity grounded in hard work, focus, and dedication. You will find spirituality that is personal rather than mimicked religiosity or trend-based, like trandwives and megachurches.
I knew Rosalía’s name before Lux but not much about her. When I got turned on to this album, I found a resonance in popular music that I had waited decades for. I was coming off of deep questions about phenomena like The Eras Tour that I didn’t really understand (no shade—Taylor Swift is amazing). I wanted to connect with a cultural moment in music the way I witnessed in others, collective effervecence, but hadn’t felt lit up by much popular music. I was questioning if I had outgrown losing myself the way some did to cultural phenomena.
I was wrong. Lux, and Rosalía’s command of it, make me weak in the knees. I am overcome by it. When clips of the tour began circulating on social media, I knew I had to experience it up close. I got online to look at tour dates and locations. Even more than simply going to the tour, when I saw it was going through Mexico City, an easily accessible location from Salt Lake City, I felt a potent draw to experience it in a location with Latin roots. While not Rosalía’s Spanish home, I felt Mexico would hold the energy of this tour more purely than somewhere in the US, like Las Vegas or Los Angeles—the dominant Spanish lyrics, the immersion in Catholicism, the cultural warmth and expressiveness.
I knew just who to recruit, and within a few days of the idea dawning, tickets were purchased, and plans were made.
When the concert came to fruition, and I stood in a sea of Mexican fans as the music and lights began and Rosalía appeared, it was nothing short of a revelation. I now understand how people came to cry at seeing their idols like the Beatles or Elvis. Maybe not to the extent of fainting or losing control, but the energy of those standing around me (some crying), of the staging and presence of Rosalía, was unforgettable. Holy, even. The artistry of the show was something I’ve not experienced. It wasn’t show women or men glitzing up the arena. It was artists, led by Rosalía, conjuring something only true art can touch. It was spellbinding.
The Astrology of Rosalía
While I’d love to give a whole account of Rosalía’s background, my experience at the concert, or a review of the album, my true purpose here is to look at the astrology chart of the person who channeled something so powerful and original. If you aren’t familiar with Rosalía, go listen to Lux, then come back so you can appreciate this analysis of an artist’s chart.
Chart Shape: I like to start with the structure or shape of a chart. In this case, Rosalía has what is called a bowl-shaped chart, meaning about half of her chart holds a fairly even distribution of planets, while the other half is devoid of planets. This can make its bearer feel as though they are missing a part of themselves, willing to soak up life and experiences with openness.
It’s a receptive chart that can make its bearer a vessel, able to hold things, or in mature manifestations, a channel that is open to receiving guidance and inspiration from higher places.
Having this chart shape myself, I know its strengths and challenges. I can feel empty at times, like I’m missing something that others naturally possess. A surface example is the blank stare I felt at The Eras Tour phenomenon, feeling like I wasn’t understanding something. But my openness and thirst for that kind of cultural connection are what allowed me to fully receive it when Lux came around, something I did resonate with and want to experience.
I don’t doubt that Rosalía channeled women saints from beyond the veil. In moments when I’ve felt a deep seeking and openness to things bigger than me, it’s like I receive words, ideas, concepts, or patterns from something else that I couldn’t have imagined or put together on my own. I can feel Rosalía’s openness through her chart shape. It feels obvious to me. Questions, quests, longing, thirst, and an ability to hold what’s received. The human on the other side of Lux feels not just open with vessel energy, but emptied to be filled by cosmic waters.
Saturn in Aquarius in her 3rd house and Mars in Cancer in her 8th house act as the edges of her bowl; these are the planets through which Rosalía receives life. Through her Saturn, experimental connection, community, and information are scooped up in professional ways. Active investigation and psychological or intimate experiences with family, history, or those who care for her are used on the other side to take life in. In the Lux tour, she creates a very intimate confessional with a guest peer confessing something to her in each concert. This feels like both sides of her bowl in action—professional, collective connection in a deeply intimate scenario.
Rising Sign: I see the rising sign almost like the city you are from. It holds the pulse of its bearer and the way energies organize around them. For Rosalía, Sagittarius gives her a pulse of wanting to tap into culture, seek and broaden her horizons, and feel alive through things like religion, perspective, or being steeped in the culture of her home, such as her expertise in flamenco. Sagittarius rising energizes her drive to share her messages globally, explore the world, and blend cultural ideas and ideals. She holds the pulse of a citizen of the world, with this album fusing many cultures.
With her North Node in Sagittarius in her 1st house, a bolt of destiny hits her global and philosophical identity. Sharing her seeking personality, sense of self, and cultural passion is part of her path in this life.
Chart Ruler: The planet that rules the rising sign is called the chart ruler. For a Sagittarius rising like Rosalía, Jupiter is this planet, indicating where she directs her life. In Virgo, she may be a perfectionist, a purist, and very attuned to detail and all that is exquisite, thoughtful, and sacred. In her 10th house of career, she directs her life toward focus, mastery, and public position, able to shoulder responsibility, train very hard, and be seen by the public with integrity. She likely does well with structure and processes.
Her chart ruler, Jupiter, is also conjunct her Sun and midheaven (pinnacle of chart), making her able to hold the spotlight and stardom with integrity. Her Moon is also conjunct her chart ruler, which could bring ebbs and flows to her direction and public life, but also a love of femininity, ancestry, and intuition. This shows a need to trust what may feel irrational, strong premonitions, and a craving for security. What’s interesting is that her chart ruler sits almost exactly at her Sun-Moon midpoint, a mathematical point where your inner balance lies. This gives her a steadiness that most find difficult to establish.
Midheaven (MC): I noted above that her Jupiter chart ruler is conjunct her MC (or the summit of her chart/career point). This point is also conjunct her Sun and Mercury. When planets hit angles in a chart, it shows people who tend to stand out in life, which is tripled for her around career and public position. Her light and her mind are on full display.
Stripping this congregation of energy and looking only at her midheaven, we find it in Libra, a sign with strong ties to music. Libra harmonizes and seeks balance and resonance. Technically, her midheaven falls in her 11th house of collectives, collaboration, humanity, and fame. This gives her very potent MC a turbo boost of star power on top of its triple conjunction of planets. There’s electricity with a willingness to experiment and push the boundaries of the future. Rosalía is here to innovate with trend-setting power.
When we look to Venus, the planet that rules her Libra MC, it sits in her 12th house of art and spirituality. It’s no wonder music and spiritual depth move through her expertise. In Scorpio, how she uses art in her career can transform her. It is alchemical, psychological, and potent. If she allows it, each album she creates has the potential to break her down and revive her like a phoenix from the ashes. Her bowl vessel turns from lead to gold through dissolving into and entangling with professional creations.
Sun in Libra: I won’t spend much time here as we’ve already talked a bit about her Sun on her MC as well as Libra. In her 11th house, her creativity and light can hold collective boundaries. Her ego holds a willingness to play and experiment with others and with innovations. The genre-bending capacity of Lux is seen in Rosalía’s solar light. Her light and heart are meant to create experimental resonance.
Moon in Virgo: Emotion, responsiveness, and human connection are tinged with analytical refinement. Rosalía likely finds comfort in things that are organized, connects with feeling through practice and refinement, and finds security in all that is sacred and purposeful in life. Analysis paralysis may sometimes come for her moods, but a conjunction with Jupiter brings an underlying optimism that can lift her out of nitpicking responses to what life and others throw at her.
In phase, this Moon is closing a cycle. Narrative understanding flows through her—a need to be a guide and use story or a platform to share wisdom and be a light for others. This enhances the Sagittarian flavor of her rising sign, amplifying a need for experiential wisdom, shared in narrative-rich ways.
Draconic Chart: The way I read charts, the draconic chart illuminates the deepest patterns of where a soul is, through many lifetimes. The deepest patterns come through and shine a light on what their soul is doing in this lifetime.
Draconic Capricorn Sun: The way I read draconic charts, the Sun shows something about soul stage or age on Earth (not necessarily the soul’s overall age). In Capricorn, I see patterns of those reaching a summit of expert status. These can be really tough individuals. Relentless, focused, driven, and holding a very specific mission or calling in life.
In my own formula (that I’m currently writing a book about), I layer our Tropical and Draconic charts to see the phase we’re in within a stage—beginning, middle, or end of a stage. Rosalía might be a Capricorn soul, but a Libra Sun can indicate where she is in that soul stage.
Libra Tropical Sun against a Capricorn Draconic Sun shows someone newly arriving at the summit. In story structure, this is the New World stage. Passion, dominance, boldness, and independence live in this particular stage of Capricorn soul age. Bless any soul who tries to battle this person. I know two people in my life with a Capricorn soul age (they aren’t a dime a dozen like younger soul ages) and feel like I’d have to put my life on the line to cross them. This particular phase of Capricorn soul age is one I don’t know in person, but seen in other celebrity examples, I think might be unbeatable.
Two other celebrities with this particular soul stage and phase are Eminem and Zorhan Mamdani. They are both unafraid pioneers who are formidable in their particular arena. I believe Rosalía will come to stake her place in the music industry (more than she already has) with similar toughness.
Draconic Rising Sign: Rosalía shares the same Sagittarius rising sign and 11th house Libra Sun as Eminem. Both are musicians with massive fame and audiences. Rosalía is a little softer, with her draconic rising sign in Pisces. This shows compassion, mysticism, and fluidity in her approach and pulse. Eminem’s draconic rising is Aquarius, giving him a more rebellious and electric pulse versus Roslía’s fluid and spiritual one. But these two have a deep resonance in their soul stage and phase in how life is orienting around them.
Because the Capricorn Soul/Earth age requires and teaches its patrons to stand up with authority, integrity, and responsibility, it is not an easy path. It’s likely we will see this magical human go through some battles. Especially as Libra is in what I call the ‘New World’ stage of this soul age, where they have to fight for a new order and become familiar with new rules and realms. I think we are in for bold things to come from Rosalía as she forges a path of excellence that’s fresh and bold.
Summary
This is where I’m going to put a pin in it for now, with the major tentpoles of Rosalía’s chart brought to light. Many strong stellar threads reflect the tour de force she is becoming:
A congregation of planets at her MC and a Capricorn soul age bring her unyielding focus and a public life. 11th house planets bring experimentation, collaboration, and fame. Sagittarius rising and moon phase give her a sense of seeking and cultural significance. Her Virgo Moon gives her a longing for things exquisite and sacred, while her Pisces draconic rising and MC ruler, Venus, in her 12th house make her an artist willing to dissolve and, in Scorpio, transform for her mastery.
