A Week of Shifting Focus

May 19 - 25, 2025

We come to the last third of our spring quarter on Tuesday as the solar season shines its spotlight on Gemini. Get ready for life to ramp up in speed, sociality, and delightful busyness, especially come Sunday when its ruler, Mercury, moves into the Gemini spotlight and its own sign.

The other seismic shift coming in is Saturn, planet of focus, mastery, limitation, and structure, is moving into Aries. While big for all of us, this will especially shift things for Capricorn and Aquarius, as it is their ruling planet. Reboot energy means they may take a wrecking ball to the past 29 years to make space for fresh blueprints and aims.

The Prominent Tonal Shifts

Gemini Season

Tuesday, May 20th at 12:54 pm MT

For the next 30 days, the Sun puts its spotlight on our minds, connectivity, and the urge to weave color and possibility into our lives and communities.

This is spring finally feeling like things are moving forward as we started out in a Mercury retrograde during Aries Season and the ruler of Taurus Season, in post-retrograde shadow for all but the last few days of Taruus Season. Get out into life and move your ideas and information around.

Mercury conjuncts Uranus

Saturday, May 24th at 6:15 pm MT

The way I read the stars, when two planets are conjunct, they plan a new cycle of collaboration. The sign they meet in will tell us a lot about their agenda.

With Mercury and Uranus meeting (about once a year), we get a collaboration of breaking mental limitations and tapping innovative ideas. In Taurus, this is around values, body autonomy, voice, worth, and form and function.

Plant new seeds around how you need to think differently about your worth. This will be their last conjunction in this sign in our lifetimes. What themes since Taurus Season 2019 (their first meeting in Taurus) have you noticed around shaking up your ideas of value and beauty? How do you want to push these themes for a final year of emphasis around this?

Experiment and shake up your ideas around beauty, sexual preferences, body and voice, autonomy, industriousness, and the material realm.

Saturn enters Aries

Saturday, May 24th at 10:35 pm MT

Minus a short dip back into Pisces later this year into early next year, Saturn is ready to restructure our lives and the world. This planet is associated with goals, planning, foresight, blueprints, and the architecture of life. It’s executives, corporations, capitalism, and reaching with high aspirations.

For the past 2.5 years, this planet has been ending its tour of the zodiac in Pisces, looking to use the structuring mastery it gained in its 29-year orbit to the most complex things in life, including institutions and bureaucracy (hello DOGE). The problem is that Pisces is just a little too complex to be structured. It houses chaos and orchestration. It hasn’t been a good fit.

In its move to Aries, something of a Maverick will come out in the side of ourselves that wears suits. We may even exchange suits for construction gear and pioneering attire.

Saturn isn’t a fan of Aries, and Aries isn’t a fan of Saturn. It’s already been a complex couple of years for this archetype in us, and we’ve got some more awkwardness ahead, but at least this awkwardness will be drawing up fresh plans and new kinds of structuring. Saturn is the father of the zodiac. It is slow, rules time and timelessness, tradition, and hierarchies. Aries is the infant of the zodiac, impulsive, impatient, and quick. Saturn is risk-averse, and Aries is all risk. Saturn wants measured, cautious projections, and Aries wants to be first in terrain that isn’t yet mapped; hence, measured plans do not work well in its terrain.

This all means that the part of us that likes rules, discipline, boxes, and decorum, will be in terrain where there are no rules, things are new, and there is no way of knowing what to be prepared for. On the other hand, the part of us that enjoys independence, freedom, and quick action will be asked to be more thorough, cautious, and responsible. We may feel saddled with positions and micro-management in areas we are used to freewheeling.

Aries can have wrecking ball energy, and so may have us tearing down what was not solidly built. We may have to let go of certain attachments to rules and constructs that are in disrepair. Aries will spot crumbling structures a mile away and torpedo them to make room for something new. But, underneath all this awkwardness, something is being reborn in how we structure, capitalize, and build in life. We are very ready for a renaissance in how corporations and constructs affect society. We need some Maverick energy and new kinds of executives. New myths and patterns in the constructs that hold society together. This is a chance to revive passion and vitality in the world we build, together.

For more about this, check both the Yearly Overview and the Headlines of Spring 2025 in the Quarterly Overview in the Mystically in Season membership. In the Quarterly Overview, you will also find by-sign insight into the area of life that Saturn governs in your chart and what its move to Aries will mean for that part of your life and the part of your life that Aries is assigned to.

Mercury enters Gemini

Sunday, May 25th at 8:00 pm MT

Mercury is at home in Gemini. It’s one of the signs it rules. By the time Mercury makes its move to this sign, it will also be in a phase within its synodic period of being curious, paradoxical, shape-shifting, playful, and flirtatious.

This will ramp up the energy of spring to near mania with movement, social occasions, and possibility pollination. Don’t take yourself or others too seriously.

Don’t expect promises to be kept. Do have fun, be light, and experiment. There are inner tensions we are all trying to puzzle together, and not all the pieces we try to put in place fit. The lighter and more open we are, the better this will go. Fixed signs may get frustrated, cardinal signs may feel direction-dizzy, and mutable signs will be in heaven.

Honorable Mentions

Venus trines Mars on Thursday, May 22nd at 2:41 am MT

While trines and sextiles often pass quietly beneath the radar, this one catches my attention. The age-old Venus–Mars polarity—“Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”—always stirs the pot of relational dynamics. But a trine opens a line of easeful communication between them. Rather than clash, they may collaborate.

To rewind: the last time Venus and Mars met was on February 22, 2024, in Aquarius—conjunct Pluto (power and control), opposite the Moon (emotional volatility), and approaching a square with Jupiter (a moment for perspective and moral reckoning). That conjunction seeded the current cycle. But with all those hard aspects, especially in a cool, cerebral sign like Aquarius, it wasn’t exactly the most fertile ground for emotional harmony. The tone was more: How can we be friends instead of lovers? or How can we liberate ourselves from outdated paradigms of love and war?

By the time of their first square in August 2024—a classic moment of tension—the news cycle was flooded with stories of DV, SH, and SA. In December 2024, their opposition—the peak point of their cycle—brought a moment of ferocious power to Venus, who returned to their original conjunction degree, this time flanked by Pluto and Ceres, defending herself with gravity and force.

Now, at this upcoming trine, Venus and Mars form a more harmonious link. Mars will be in Leo, Venus in Aries, both in fire signs. Each are independently on new, somewhat unstable journeys—figuring out their own paths, a bit wobbly, but open. Their priorities have shifted since that cold Aquarius meeting. This trine could reflect a shared purpose emerging from those changes, or at least a willingness to listen across the divide.

The fire element here is key. It brings courage, purification, and intensity. We might use this moment to burn away impurities in the dynamic between masculine and feminine principles—to clarify what true, empowered friendship or partnership between the sexes can be, a liberated style of alchemical marriage. Or we might burn too hot and incinerate the possibility of alchemical harmony altogether.

I’m not here to pass judgment, but this Venus–Mars cycle has striking parallels in timing to the evolving public narrative between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Without speculating on guilt or innocence (and acknowledging the human cost of public scrutiny), their story seems to mirror this archetypal journey—especially as it plays out through themes of power, gender, and justice.

Astrology, after all, doesn’t operate in isolation. It lives and breathes through the theater of human experience. And watching how these patterns surface in the news, particularly in legal proceedings, can reveal a lot about the collective moment we’re living in—and what we're learning through it.

Sun trines Pluto Rx on Saturday, May 24th at 10:55 am MT

Pluto is nearing the end of its synodic period with us (Earth), and this trine (or sextile to Earth) indicates that we are transforming how we liberate. Seek powerful support and those with influence to give you a hand in potent moments of awakening. Ask for help and receive help when it comes to power.
