Turning the Wheel: From Spring to Summer
On Friday night, we cross a threshold—the end of our yearly journey through the spring quadrant of the astrological wheel. Like the morning of the year, spring renews us. It centers us in fresh beginnings, calling for elbow grease and intention as we push life into bloom. This is the season of active growth, where our youthful spirits breathe into the world with colorful, delicate, and vibrant petals.
Where did you channel your energy this spring?
Into work, home, self, family, your garden?
A creative project, a spiritual quest, a budding love?
Spring stirs each of us differently, plugging us into our hungers—our desires to create, shape, and become.
Now, as we round the corner into Summer Solstice and Cancer Season, we enter the hottest quarter of the year—though paradoxically, the light begins to wane. This is seasonal lag: the Earth is warm, the days are still long, and the accumulated heat lifts us out of effort and into ripening.
Cancer’s cardinal water initiates a shift—not outward, but inward. Guided by the tides of the Moon, we’re pulled into deeper alignment with soul. We begin to sense the contours of where we’re going. It’s a season of re-membering, of touching memory, of sinking into roots. We prune the excess pathways born in Gemini Season and begin to move with greater emotional intelligence and intuition.
And here’s the paradox: by pulling back, growth accelerates. The blossoming of spring gives way to the fruiting of summer—less effortful, but no less alive. There are new challenges now—pests of the heat, distractions of abundance—but also a loosening of time. We expand in the warmth. We rest more. We harvest what’s begun to thrive. Maybe not in full, but enough to feel the shift.
This first third of summer, ruled by the Moon, unfolds in echoes. Luna rises a bit later each evening, retracing her steps through the zodiac with phases reversed from the last time she visited. There’s a spiraling rhythm here—a nonlinear pull that invites digestion, reflection, and deep remembering. It brings a feeling of returning to something we’ve always known, but with deeper seeing.
Nostalgia, in this light, isn’t mere sentimentality. It’s a grounding force—a soulful thread connecting us to where we belong. It reminds us of who we are becoming.
This year’s spiral lunar journey through Cancer Season begins with the Moon in Taurus and Gemini, and it will end there, too—but we’ll arrive changed. Grounded. More at home in our values, our minds, our sense of beauty, and belonging.
I’ve mapped this journey for each sign in the upcoming Cancer Seaosn Horoscopes, which will be live on Friday morning. Be sure to get your Mystically in Season membership to access the new Summer Quarter content and the Cancer Seaosn Horoscopes!
Like sending light through a prism to see all of its colors, I’ve broken many components of the stars into their own sections to better see the threads weaving through your life: the Sun highlighting a dimension of you and category of life, how the ruler of the season is animating you, how the Earth sign is grounding you, how your sign’s solar seeds of becoming are progressing on their growth path, and your chart ruler’s agenda and focuses (your main archetypal energy), not only through the sign they are in but with a mythic lens connected to their synodic journey.
A Note on Mercury: Fertile Timing and Slowing Down
Before diving into this week’s key transits, a quick Mercury update:
As of Thursday, Mercury begins entering its less fertile period for initiating new things—at least through the lens of synodic rhythm and pre-retrograde motion.
This doesn't mean life must pause. Projects already in motion can continue—refinements, pivots, and adjustments are all fair game. But new ideas that pop up later in the week? They may lack the rooting support needed to fully take hold. If possible, consider setting them aside and revisiting in a couple of months.
Let timing work with you, not against you.
The Week in Transits
Mars moves to virgo
Tuesday, June 17th at 2:35 am MT
Within its current Hero’s Journey—a journey seeded in Cancer’s soulful waters with a longing to create secure footing and deep care—Mars is nearing a threshold. A new world is calling. Though still gathering inspiration and spiritual guidance, there's a quickening around Mars now, a restless urgency stirring beneath the surface.
Mars, by nature, is impulsive and impatient. Virgo, through which Mars now travels, is more methodical—patient but precise, craving refinement and organization. Together, this pairing can create a kind of analysis paralysis: Virgo wants to polish the new world before Mars enters it, but Mars doesn’t want to wait.
This is a potent time to release the need to know exactly what's next. Let the direction unfold in rhythm with your intuition. Trust the synchronicities, the subtle messages, the patterns that are quietly organizing themselves. Virgo offers Mars a gift not in certainty, but in preparation. Clear the clutter—physically, emotionally, mentally. Let go of what’s become dead weight so that when the moment to leap arrives, you’re light and ready.
Take this example from the world stage: Mars rules the military—and recently, a much-hyped celebratory parade landed flat (not to mention the Trumpian spectacle around it). In the mythic theatre of planetary archetypes, Mars is currently in a kind of liminal space—a no man’s land. Its usual vigor is muted. This doesn’t mean nothing is happening—it means the energy is redirecting inward, seeking purification, refining intent.
Now is the time to be assertive in a different way: not by charging forward, but by editing, pruning, and clearing space. Mars in Virgo can be a sacred surgeon—cutting away what no longer serves so that inspiration can move more freely. Use this drive not for bold outward action, but for intentional refinement. Process the downloads. Organize your insights. Prepare the vessel.
By the time we enter July, Mars will be ready to re-engage with forward motion. The sparks you've been sensing but unable to act on—threads woven by Mercury throughout the spring—may suddenly ignite. Expect breakthroughs. The ground is almost ready.
Jupiter Squares Nepturn
Wednesday, June 18th, 9:16 pm MT
Back in April of 2022, Jupiter and Neptune seeded an expansive dream of liberation, where culture and ideals could merge with heart and art to envision a more beautiful future, free of past constraints.
On Wednesday night, this shared intention they set will finally find breakthrough energy. Expect our artists to churn out culturally relevant work. Inspiration that frees our minds and hearts to hope for something more humane.
With Neptune in Aries, art may become an act of war. With Jupiter in Cancer, the cultural tide seeks to anchor the artistic passion into caring grounds and nourishing beliefs.
